Furmint 6.0

Trade and Press Tasting

Tuesday 27th February

from 11 am to 5 pm

Painters’ Hall

9 Little Trinity Ln, London EC4V 2AD

“Furmint February 6.0 is nearly here and while awareness of Furmint as the next great white grape is growing, there still more to do to showcase this versatile and classy grape.  From fine sparklers to complex single vineyard expressions, and of course the sweet and botrytis wines – especially Szamorodni and Aszú, there aren’t many grapes that can do all this with such exciting quality and most importantly they are delicious.”

Caroline Gilby MW

Wines of Hungary UK in association with the Hungarian Wine Marketing Agency brings  the 6th edition of their iconic Furmint February tasting.

This year Furmint will be accompanied by some friends. In addition to the wide selection of Furmint, winemakers will also be pouring a range of varieties including Olaszrizling and Hárslevelű at the tasting at Painter’s Hall.

The great wines of Tokaj and other regions of Hungary are not just about Furmint alone.  Hungary is rich in indigenous and exciting white grapes that can offer another dimension of terroir expression and complement extra layers to Furmint blends.

Caroline Gilby MW will lead a masterclass on Furmint & Friends, introducing tasters to how Furmint works in blends and showcasing its friends Like Hárslevelű, Sárgamuskotály and the great Central European grape Olaszrizling and more.

These are all exciting grapes in their own right too – showcasing the variety of Hungary’s largely volcanic soils.

This year Furmint February 6.0 will feature a ‘bubble bar’ with Sue Tolson (Hungarian-based wine writer and MW student) for a deep dive into why Furmint is great for classy traditional method sparkling wines.
